THURSDAY, JULY 8, 2010 NEWS MESSENGER New medical center opens MANASSAS New clinic offers urgent care, physicals and primary care By BENNIE SCARTON Jr. A new medical center opened in Manassas on Wednesday. Patient First opened its 29th clinic at 9715 Liberia between Prince William Parkway and Signal Hill Road. The facility is expected to handle up to 100 patients a day. "Our staff at the center will be offering non-appointment service to the entire Manassas area," said Dr.

R. P. Sowers, founder and chairman. "We are looking forward to being of service to patients and physicians alike as we have been at our other Virginia cities for almost 30 years." Open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., 365 days a year, Patient First physicians and their support staff are available for urgent care; work, school, camp, sports and travel physicals; occupational health and primary care.

The initial Patient First opened in Richmond in 1981. "We are pretty much like old-time medical care in which no appointments were necessary and we try to get our patients in and out quickly," said Sowers. The facility has 12 exam rooms with at least one physician on board at all times. The company will employ 60 people, with at least 10 speaking Spanish. "We provide immediate care for a fraction of the cost of receiving the same services at a hospital ER without the long wait," said Dr.

Kevin Donaghey, medical director at the facility. Patient First also participates with all major insurance plans, completes insurance forms electronically and files a patient's claim, which means no paperwork is required. For continuity of care, Patient First routinely transmits a copy of the visit record to the patient's primary physician's office. Routine primary care is available for patients who do not have a regular physician. Services offered include care for colds, flu, allergic reactions, ear and sinus infections, pneumonia, minor burns, skin rashes, sprains, minor fractures, lacerations and sports injuries.

"It's great to have another medical center in our area. It will provide a convenient health care place where people can go for their medical needs," said Molly Grove, co-chairman of the Prince William Chamber of Commerce, who was among guests and employees attending a pre-grand opening on Tuesday evening. Dean Andrews, director of facilities, said this is the 20th green and white Patient First structure he has overseen. "Everything went real smooth for the contractor, Wack of Fredericksburg, in putting up the square-foot facility," he said. Patient First will also open centers in Garrisonville and Leesburg in the coming months.
