Will Trent Season 2 Episode 9 Review: Residente o Visitante (2024)

Uncle Antonio’s farewell fits this bright and charismatic character. Unfortunately Will Trent Season 2 Episode 9, “Residente o Visitante” marks the end (for now) of Antonio’s presence on the series. We knew it couldn’t last.

However, we didn’t think his grand exit would happen so soon. The decision makes sense because the show is Will Trent, not Will Trent and Tio Antonio but someone should really greenlight that show.

Antonio has offered major emotional growth for Will. He opens his heart more, which allows him to rekindle his romance with Angie. Despite my reservations about another romantic reunion of Will and Angie, their scenes are some of the best on “Residente o Visitante.”

They show their bond beyond its codependent nature.

The trio of Will, Angie, and Antonio provides some fun moments that once again highlight how this cast doesn’t miss with chemistry. Each actor plays off the other very well.

That’s why it feels like we’re being robbed when the episode ends with Antonio moving back to Puerto Rico. They couldn’t just let him stick around and make occasional guest appearances?

“Residente o Visitante” also has one of the most interesting cases of the season. It takes a few unexpected, but also not surprising, turns. Additionally, it has unnecessary details, but, overall, we’re fully invested in the FBI corruption.

Will Trent has toyed with this idea a couple of times in Season 1. They didn’t fully lean into it as there was some gray area with one of those situations. However, “Residente o Visitante” completely shows law enforcement misconduct.

Though Will Trent is a cop show, it also feels like it’s critical of them as much as praises them. This comes across also with Faith and Mike’s case.

They are trying to track down the killer of a sex offender. The citizens are shown filming them and mention how they barely show up when crime happens in their area. It’s small moments like this that remind us that police officers aren’t always beacons of moral examples.

The show doesn’t say that all law enforcement is corrupt or incompetent because most of the show’s team is good at their jobs and hasn’t done anything illegal (coughminusAmandacough).

Additionally, last season I mentioned several instances of the characters behaving in non-professional ways, but this season they have seemingly toned that down. However, I still wonder if Mike’s children should come to the police station so often. Feels like that goes against some rules, but we move forward.

Will Trent ends “Residente o Visitante” with an introduction to the main focus of the season finale: this serial sex offender killer. This case though interesting, isn’t where I expect the season to end.

It doesn’t seem personal enough to Will like many of the most interesting cases of the past two seasons. Therefore, it seems like this season finale might not be as spectacular as we hope. However, we will trust the process and see how it all unfolds.

“Residente o Visitante” provides some closure for Will’s life while setting up a potentially interesting finale. It further proves that chemistry is key to the success of Will Trent.

Stray Thoughts
  • Wild theory: Crystal is the serial killer. That’s why she’s been going home with random men. She’s been killing some of them because she’s still traumatized and that’s how she’s been coping.
  • I hate to say it but Will and Angie were really cute together in “Residente o Visitante.” I may have to stop complaining about their romance.
  • Ramon Rodriguez deserves an Emmy just for convincingly pretending not to speak Spanish.
  • The show should have stayed in Puerto Rico longer. If they ever do a spin-off or something, set it there.
  • I like the callback to the Boricua James Bond joke.
  • “I Left My Wallet in El Segundo” by A Tribe Called Quest is one of the best moments of Will Trent ever. Just an effortlessly amusing scene.
  • The ocean scene is beautiful.
  • It’s nice seeing Will interact with the ghost of his mother again. We need more of that in future episodes.
  • After next week’s finale, the wait for Season 3 in January will feel like forever, but thankfully, we’re getting nearly double the episodes than this season.
