Heat and pop-up storms Saturday, then a bigger heatwave to start the week (2024)

HEAT, BUT TOMORROW BECAUSE OF POTENTIAL STORMS. THAT’S TRUE. AND THERE ARE SOME EVENTS THAT ARE GOING TO BE HAPPENING TOMORROW. AS I SAY ON FRIDAY, EVERYTHING HAPPENING TONIGHT SHOULD BE IN GREAT SHAPE AS LONG AS YOU KEEP IN MIND THAT IT IS GOING TO BE HOT AND HUMID, VERY MUGGY. BUT THAT MUGGINESS WITH ANOTHER FRONT MOVING CLOSER TO US WILL GIVE US A CHANCE OF SOME SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS AND THAT COULD IMPACT THE GREAT LENEXA BARBECUE, KANSAS CITY BARBECUE FEST DOWN AT ARROWHEAD. IN ADDITION TO THAT, SO MO KANSAS CITY BLOCK, PART PARTY THAT IS YEAH, THAT’S HAPPENING TOMORROW ALSO BETWEEN 10 AND 3 AT LEE’S SUMMIT JAZZ FEST AND EVEN OF COURSE GOING THROUGH POWELL GARDEN THAT GOES ALL THE WAY THROUGH SEPTEMBER. BUT STILL, IF YOU’RE GOING TO BE HEADING OUT THERE TOMORROW AFTERNOON, TOMORROW EVENING COULD RUN INTO ONE OF THOSE THUNDERSTORMS. IT COULD BE A LITTLE BIT ON THE STRONG SIDE. WE HAVE SOME CLOUDS ROLLING THROUGH AND THAT’S KEEPING THE TEMPERATURE DOWN A LITTLE BIT. WE’RE STILL AT 85 THOUGH. BUT LOOK AT THIS NUMBER. THE DEW POINT IS ALL THE WAY UP INTO THE 70S. THAT’S TROPICAL. THAT’S WHY JUST FEELS HEAVIER IN SPITE OF THAT. FEELS LIKE TEMPERATURE OF 93 DEGREES. AND WE’RE PROBABLY GOING TO BE WELL OVER TRIPLE DIGITS HEADING INTO NEXT WEEK. 85, AS YOU SAW, 86 IN ODESSA AS WELL AS CHILLICOTHE, 84 DEGREES IN TRENTON, 88 DEGREES DOWN TOWARD OTTAWA, ONE OF THE WARMER ONES IN 87, IN LA CYGNE AND PAOLA. SO WE’RE WELL ON OUR WAY, GETTING CLOSE TO 90 DEGREES. I MENTIONED JUST A FEW HIT AND MISS SHOWERS THAT ARE SHOWING UP IN THE HEATING OF THE AFTERNOON. SOME OF THEM ARE POPPING UP, BUT THEY’RE VERY SMALL. THEY WILL TURN ON THE LIGHTNING COUNTER EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE. TWO LIGHTNING STRIKES COMBINED. AND SO AS YOU CAN TELL, THIS IS NOT SEVERE. THIS IS NOT GOING TO BE WIDESPREAD EITHER. JUST A FEW HIT AND MISS SHOWERS. SOME ALSO UP TOWARD CHILLICOTHE AND HEADING UP TOWARD THE IOWA STATE LINE. BUT AS YOU’LL NOTICE, IT’S JUST GOING TO BE WARM FOR EVERYBODY ELSE. AND EVEN IF YOU DO HAVE ONE OF THESE SHOWERS THAT’S OVERHEAD, IT WILL JUST KEEP THE HUMIDITY PRETTY HIGH. ACCORDING TO FIRST ALERT FUTURESCAN, WE COULD SEE ANOTHER CHANCE OF THEM GENERATING TOWARD THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING HOURS SPREADING FARTHER TO THE EAST AND SOUTHEAST, BUT MOVING OUT BY SATURDAY. THAT’S NOT WHY WE HAVE THE IMPACT THAT WILL BE TOWARD THE EVENING HOURS 90 LATER ON TODAY, 93 TOMORROW. WITH THAT CHANCE OF STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS. AND ON SUNDAY WE DRY OUT. BUT WE STAY HUMID WITH A HIGH. THEN OF 92 DEGREES. CHANCES OF RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS, BETTER CHANCES FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF ALL THOSE INGREDIENTS COMING TOGETHER TO THE EAST AND NORTHEAST OF THE CITY. THAT WILL BE ON SATURDAY NIGHT. SO HERE IT IS, EXCLUSIVE FIRST ALERT, NINE DAY FORECAST. THERE ARE THOSE 90S WE’VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT, AND THERE THE IMPACT DAYS NEXT WEEK MONDAY. AND TUESDAY, 97 DEGREES BOTH DAYS. CERTAINLY FEELING LIKE 100 PLUS. THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS. FIRST TIME WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH THAT. WE’VE TAKEN IT OFF OF WEDNESDAY BECAUSE OF THE THUNDERSTORMS COOLING US DOWN TO ABOUT 89 DEGREES. Humid, hot, and hazy — it's the three H's of summer for our weekend and into next week.Saturday is a First Alert Weather Impact Day for extreme heat expected across the Kansas City area, coupled with the chance for pop-up thunderstorms. We're looking at a high temperature of 93 degrees Saturday with the chance some of those thunderstorms could be strong to severe. The strongest chances for storms is in the eastern and northeastern most parts of the KMBC viewing area. In Kansas City, any storms that form are most likely in the late afternoon and evening hours. Those storms may bring temporary relief for Sunday — in that it will only be 92 degrees and not as humid — but expect a heat wave Monday, leaving conditions miserable for Monday and Tuesday.
