How do I trade with an InvestDirect stocks & shares ISA?
Once you’ve opened your InvestDirect account, you can apply for a stocks and shares ISA.
Log on to your online banking, select your InvestDirect account, select ‘Product & services’ and then select ‘ISA’.
Trading within a stocks and shares ISA is a tax-efficient way to invest, as all income from your shares will be free of UK income and capital gains tax.
You can open a stocks & shares ISA if:
- you don’t already have a stocks & shares ISA for the current tax year (you can still have a cash ISA or another type of ISA)
- you’ve not exceeded your £20,000 ISA limit for the current tax year
Keep in mind, tax rules can also change and any benefits will depend on your individual circ*mstances.
You'll need to transfer funds to your InvestDirect stocks and shares ISA before you can trade, which you can do via online banking.
Proceeds from a sale will remain inside your ISA. You can withdraw money from your ISA at any time – although if you do, you can only replace this within the current tax year by using an additional part of your ISA allowance.
