SAN FRANCISCO/LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (20-31, 3-18 WCC) enters the final week of the regular season when it hosts UC Davis (24-25) at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14 at Benedetti Diamond before traveling to LMU (22-28, 7-14 WCC) for a three-game series on Thursday, May 16 – Saturday, May 18 at Page Stadium.

DONS AT A GLANCE:

  • Taking on the conference's top weekend in the final WCC home series, San Francisco faced off against San Diego on Friday, May 10 – Sunday, May 12 at Benedetti Diamond.
  • The Dons battled throughout the series and nearly completed the comeback in the series opener. Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Patrick Keighran punched a single through the left side of the infield, scoring Logan Leax to tie the game at one. The Toreros ultimately scored the go-ahead run in the 13th inning and held on for the 2-1 victory.
  • Keighran, Lane Oliphant, and Myles Kallinger led the Dons with three hits throughout the series. Oliphant, one of six graduates honored before the game, picked up two hits in the series finale, while Kallinger recorded an RBI double to get the Dons on the board on Sunday.
  • In the series finale, Blake Pitts came off the bench to record his first-career home run, a solo shot over the right-field wall.
  • Ranking third on the team with a .236 batting average, Matty Fung has excelled offensively in the back half of the season. Fung, totaling 11 hits in the last10games, has led the team with 10 RBIduring that span.
  • Joe Soberon, the Dons' top starting pitcher, threw seven stellar innings in the narrow 2-1 defeat to San Diego last Friday. In his best outing of the season, Soberon allowed just one run on six hits and struck out seven batters. In 13 games, Soberon leads the team and ranks fourth in the WCC with a 3.18 earned-run average.

SCOUTING THE AGGIES:

  • UC Davis, coming off a series win at Cal State Fullerton last weekend, enters its final regular season non-conference contest with 24 wins, the most since 2015.
  • The Aggies earned the series win over the Titans on the road, taking the first two games before narrowly falling 2-1 in the series finale on Sunday, May 12. The long ball played a factor in the series' first two games as the Aggies totaled three home runs en route to 7-4 and 7-3 victories.
  • Riley Acosta leads the team with a .279 batting average with 38 hits in 136 at-bats. In the series at Cal State Fullerton, Acosta went three-for-13 at the plate while hitting a solo home run in the series final.
  • Damian Stone hasprovided the Aggies withpower this season, ranking first on the team with seven home runs. Stone set the tone in the series opener on Friday, May 12, when he posted a two-run home run in the top of the first inning.

SCOUTING THE LIONS:

  • LMU enters the final weekend series in sixth place in the WCC standings with a 7-14 record. The Lions travel to Irvine, Calif., on Tuesday, May 14, to take on No. 13 UC Irvine before hosting San Francisco this weekend.
  • Christian Dicochea leads the team and ranks seventh in the WCC with a .339 batting average. Dicochea also leads the Lions in hits (63), doubles (14), and on-base percentage (.450).
  • Recording 12 home runs apiece, Brandon Bobo and Sam Biller ranked tied for fourth in the league, one of two teams to have two or more players with at least 10 home runs.
  • On the mound, Owen Hackman has established himself as the Lions' top starting pitchers, earning 12 starts and recording a team-best 4.18 earned-run average. Hackman also leads the squad in innings pitched (67.2), strikeouts (78), and wins (six).
  • As a team, LMU ranks fourth in the conference in batting average (.278) and sixth in earned-run average (6.03). The Lions have six players batting .250 or better while seven pitchers have a 5.00 earned-run average or lower with at least 10 appearances.

SERIES HISTORY:

  • San Francisco owns a 16-11 record over UC Davis since the 2006 season, with nine coming in the Bay. The two teams faced off earlier this season, as the Dons held on for a 6-4 victory on Tuesday,Apr. 9, at Phil Swimley Field at Dobbins Stadium.
  • Since 2006, San Francisco and LMUare tiedwith 26 wins in 52 meetings. The Dons pulled out a win over the Lions last season at Benedetti Diamond, earning a 3-2 11-inning victory onMarch 26, 2023.
